Wednesday Webcast Review: A Life of Play

alifeofplay.jpgThe shorts, t-shirts, sandals, and bathing suits have come out of storage and we feel the urge to get outside and have some fun. Maybe your idea of fun is rock-climbing, or maybe hiking, or maybe you just want to have a picnic. Whatever your preference, A Life of Play podcast might be a good place to get some tips and advice on how to best plan your next excursion.

A recent episode spoke of the emerging hobby geocaching. If you aren't familiar with the word, geocaching is basically a treasure hunt you embark on with a GPS receiver. There are many websites devoted to the hobby and it seems to be a great excuse to go out and see places you might not otherwise think about visiting. Geocachers let GPS coordinates guide them and will sometimes stumble upon some unique and interesting places. On the geocaching episode of the podcast, Jeff Cutler (the host) interviews Chris LeBrun who gives us the basics on what geocaching is and how to get started in the hobby. This seems to be the common format of the show: introduce the topic and interview someone with knowledge and insight about the topic.

3-50_3344.gifAs with many podcasters who began podcasting without a background in sound production, Jeff Cutler has had to deal with learning how to produce a good sounding podcast. His sound has improved, and it is evident that he has put some time and effort into it.

So, we suppose you want to know if you should listen? That's what you are here for, right? Well, the shows are so varied that just about anyone will find something interesting every now and again. For instance, we particularly liked the episode on throwing boomerangs, but didn't care much for learning how to throw a party. We imagine someone out there might have different tastes, and may prefer the episode on computer video games. There is much diversity in the topics that are discussed, so subscribe to the podcast and listen when the topic interests you. Just make sure you don't hurt anyone with that newly purchased boomerang.
