Wednesday Webcast Review: Old South Church Sermons
Sometimes we want more from a podcast. Yes, it is nice to listen to some independent music artists, get some financial advice, or get your geek on. But, sometimes we want to be inspired. For those times, we have the Old South Church Sermons from Boston's Old South Church.
The congregation of the Old South Church has its roots extend back to the late 1600s. It is an open and diverse congregation with parishoners of all ages, incomes, and walks of life. There is something to be said for a church that welcomes all. However, if you cannot make it to the church just reach for your favorite MP3 player and hit the play button. Technology is grand.
One of the things Bostonist likes about the Old South Church Sermons is that they are pretty brief, usually under 15 minutes and sometimes under 10 minutes. This allows us to queue it up on our iPod and listen to it anytime we need encouragement or insight. The topics of the sermons vary greatly, which means there is a good chance there is a sermon out there that will speak to you.
The podcast does suffer a bit from sound issues. Bostonist imagines that recording in a church, especially one that was constructed in the late 1800s, provides some interesting challenges. However, the sound isn't so bad that divine intervention is necessary. Usually, it just requires adjusting the volume on your MP3 player.
If you are looking for a little direction in your life or maybe a little inspiration, place this podcast in your iPod and say hallelujah, or amen, or spend some time in silent contemplation.

Thanks for the shoutout in passing to the Old South sermons podcast (as pointed to by Bostonist). I helped the tech folks at Old South set up the podcast last fall and the reach of the content has been gratifying. Also good for people to know that not all Christians are conservative ...
We're also in the process of changing the recording system we use for the services; I'll mention your comment about sound quality to the team and we'll see if we can come up with something.
