Today we continue on our video theme for the week, bringing videos out of the YouTube vault as our way of saying happy birthday to the new quarter-centenarian on the block, MTV. Yesterday was New Kids, today is New Edition. Choosing between a solo Bobby Brown and the entire Boston-bred crew of New Edition was actually more difficult than we thought. Bobby's got a certain presence we find hard to turn away from – since Whitney we've been watching in the same way we crane our neck to check out a car wreck on the highway. But we settled with Candy Girl. The deciding factor was the fact the whole thing is shot in Boston. From the Hatch Shell to the Common, from the elevated Orange Line (is that Dudley?) to the Charles River these kids were all over.
We will throw in a couple of bonuses – New Edition's Mr. Telephone Man (when they got huge and filmed videos in NYC) and some of Bobby's video hits: Humpin' Around, My Prerogative, and Every Little Step.
