How do you take Fine Art and make it hip for the kids? A DJ, Live Music, or Free Food? If you filled in the oval next to "D – All of the above" you'd be spot on for the effort the Museum of Fine Arts is putting on this Thursday, September 28 - College Night. If you can't scrounge up a student ID there's always Wednesday night entry without admission fee thanks to the Citizens Bank Foundation.
College Night at the MFA last year drew in around 1,600 people – this year they're hoping the party that runs from 8pm to midnight will bring almost double out to the MFA. Joanna Newsom headlines at 9pm (it's in the courtyard - so bundle up!), a DJ spins, and "Domains of Wonder: Masterworks of Indian Painting" is up in the Torf Gallery which, among other galleries in the museum will be open until midnight - and won't cost you extra. They'll be raffling off Tivoli Radios, iPods, music, and a buttload of SmartWater. One thing you're guaranteed to get are flyers around for "Fashion Show: Paris Collections 2006" opening in November to bring the under 30 set back to the Museum in a couple months. Word on the street is that "Fashoin Show" will be free for student ID holders as well (usually another $7 additional). In Bostonist's experience a visit to the museum mid-day is much different from a visit to the museum after dark. We like the latter better.
