Sports Redux: Comm Ave Showdown Next Week!

beanpot.jpgThe big action in town Monday night was at the Garden. Finally, we knew some local teams would leave the big barn happy. The 55th Beanpot Tournament got underway, with B.U. knocking off Northeastern 4-0 and B.C. taking care of Harvard 3-1. There will once again be some icy glares on the B trains this week.

Gerald Green got the nod to represent the Celtics at the Sprite Slam Dunk Challenge at the All-Star Game. Can you make a direct correlation between the first Celtic to win the dunk contest (Dee Brown, 1991) and the beginning of the end for the Celtics' dynasty? Jim Loscatoff never worried about dunking, is all we're saying. CelticsBlog has a montage of some of G-Money's best over his short career.

Neither of the local winter teams played Monday, so we have no grim news to report at this time. The Bruins are in Washington tonight, and the Celtics are in Detroit - OK, Auburn Hills - where they'll try to end the bleeding-to-death that is the 2006-07 campaign. Somehow, the Pistons are actually worried about this game. At least publicly.

Part of us is wondering if Bill Belichick is feverishly studying the NFC roster to best prepare for this weekend's Pro Bowl in Honolulu. Though, we'll admit, we're a lot more interested to see if Bill is wearing a cutoff hoodie with a Hawaiian print.

Finally, pop on over to the Boston Sports Review, where they're having a reader poll to determine the best and worst of Boston sports media coverage. Remember, it's spelled S-h-a-u-g-h-n-e-s-s-y.
