The Real Local News: Intra-WHDH Brawling

hennessey-hiller.JPGWhat isn't there to love about our fine city's local newscasters? They ride bulls. They get praised by Hustler. And they even fight with each other!

Two WHDH newsmen got into a rumble right in the middle of Deval Patrick's apology for pimping his car and almost sticking us with the bill. You'd think they wouldn't fight because they are on the same team, but Andy Hiller got into Sean Hennessey's shot, and the professionalism went right out the window.

People who were there said that Hiller and Hennessey traded expletive-laden insults for 10 or 15 minutes, and one witness told the Track Girls: "The governor even looked over at them kind of funny."

We are really sorry we missed the governor shooting his angry, disappointed dad look their way. If you saw the gubernatorial debates, you should know that look - he sent it to Kerry Healey and Christy Mihos when they started clawing each other. Patrick loves that stuff because he can showcase his admirable ability to remain calm.

If no one else were around, the tiff might have turned into a scene out of Anchorman. "10 or 15 minutes" is a long time to fight with anyone - even verbally. If it were just an "F- you" followed by a "No, F- YOU," then that would make sense, but these high-strung newsies must clearly despise each other if they are so willing to make themselves laughingstocks in front of the governor and their peers.

Hiller is probably best known for popping a quick foreign-policy quiz on George W. Bush just before Bush's first presidential run in 1999 (Bush failed). If he is on the politics beat and calls his own segment "Hiller Instinct," you'd think he'd have bigger fish to fry.

Last comment - both brawlers should be grateful that New York City anchorman Rob Morrison wasn't around. He listens to Wolfmother and would kick both their asses.
