Sports Redux: Cora the Explorer

cora.JPGThings were looking bleak in Canada yesterday. Leonard Cohen bleak. Down 3-1 after seven innings, the Sox looked like the "feast or famine" roller coaster was about to take another big dip.

Then Manny homered to tie it. He's finally off the schnide, and only one behind Miracle Mirabelli now. Then in the bottom of the eighth, Alex Cora survived a tough slide by the Jays' Lyle Overbay to turn a rally-killing double play. Cora, not finished yet, hit a ball deep into left that had rolled halfway to Guelph before a Blue Jay caught up with it. Triple for Cora, Sox take the lead. A great effort by Toronto's Roy Halladay wasted, and the Sox officially have momentum coming into the Yankees series this weekend.

The Yanks come in one game behind Boston, mostly on the strength of Alex Rodriguez. A-Rod is on a pace to hit about 452 home runs this year, assuming his season isn't peaking before May Day. Not that we'd say anything like that about A-Rod. Schilling goes against Andy Pettitte tonight.

Greg Oden is officially in the draft. The Ohio State uberfreshman is leaving Columbus for the bright lights of Milwaukee or Portland (we're trying to temper our expectations). The lottery system is a little more convoluted now, but Bill Simmons reminisces about the first NBA lottery, when it turns out the envelope wasn't frozen after all, but rather bent, folded, spindled and mutilated.

You say you want a Revolution update? Shoo-be-doo, all right. The Revs tied the Columbus Crew 2-2 in the aforementioned capital city of the Buckeye State. Crew reserve Kei Kamara tied the game in the 86th minute, which is the exact same time he tied the Columbus-New England game a year ago. Weird.
