Pops Rhymes With "COPS"

051107_pops_brawl_cnn.JPGYesterday, we spoke of douchebags in the plural sense when discussing the brawl that erupted at the Boston Pops. But one of the parties involved in the fight has spoken up, saying that the fight was completely the other guy's fault.

Matt Ellinger is speaking to the media and explaining his role. Apparently a man sitting near him at the Pops wouldn't shut up during the performance. Ellinger told this individual repeatedly to shut up, which was his right because one is not supposed to speak during public performances.

And then Ellinger received a punch in the face for his troubles. Ellinger, like any sensible individual, promptly began to defend himself from this crazy individual.

Ellinger has been on the news telling his side of the story as loud as he can. And he seems like a reasonable individual who basically said what was probably on everyone's mind during the show. The guy who threw the punch hasn't shown his face to the press, perhaps because his shirt's already been ripped off before the world and he's now the number-one video on CNN.

He may be the number-one video on CNN because he neglected to wear an undershirt under a button-down. Bad idea. A male Bostonist explains that fashion sense dictates that you should wear an undershirt with a button-down. What if you get into a fight? You need to be ready.

Oh, and the alleged douchebag is 44, so if Ellinger's side of the story is true, then the guy who started the Boston Pops Brawl seems to be suffering from a case of arrested development. He also has bigger problems because Ellinger is thinking about pressing charges.

We have heard rumblings that the Boston Pops Brawl is a sign that civility is on the decline. We disagree. Douchebags have walked the earth since the beginning of time. And one just happened to get a ticket to the Pops.

All charges alleged until proven under law. Or until the video gets aired on "COPS."

Actually, if you'd notice the small bit about wearing an undershirt, the author never uses the term "button-down," but "dress" instead. You know why? Because "button-down" refers to the buttons on the collar, not the buttons down the front of the shirt.

Hey, I learn something new every day! However, whether the shirt were dress or not, the Boston POPS brawler was still in desperate need of an undershirt.

I heard the other guy was a New York Philharmonic fan.
