This past Thursday the 10th Annual Lantern Festival was held at the Forest Hills Cemetery in Jamaica Plain. This Buddhist-ritual inspired event has long been a big draw for Boston-area photographers and this year was no different. As the paper lanterns inscribed with personal messages floated across Lake Hibiscus and Japanese drummers performed many cameras were snapping the serene scene. Check out the photos for a feel of this special night.......

--Find out where to meet up on March 6 to ask Rep. Ed Markey (aka "Biz Markey") to support Cape Wind. [Blue Mass Group, more on Cape Wind from Bostonist] --Holy crap. This guy eats a Big Mac in one bite. Honest. Where is Morgan Spurlock when you need him? [Andy Eats via Menu Pages] --Following a more highbrow food track, Le Cordon Bleu is opening in Cambirdge on April 7. [Beantown Bloggery] --Apparently Barstool......

For the past few months, Bostonist has engaged in a scientific experiment. We've been sniffing around T stops to find out which ones are the most pleasant and which ones are an offense to the olfactory nerves. Each day this week, we'll evaluate the odors you will find at various T stops. And here it is--the complete list of T stops with the most distinct odors: Aquarium: High tide, dolphin pee Airport: Pleather luggage,......

For the past few months, Bostonist has engaged in a scientific experiment. We've been sniffing around T stops to find out which ones are the most pleasant and which ones are an offense to the olfactory nerves. Each day this week, we'll evaluate the odors you will find at various T stops. Today marks a trip down the Orange Line. You might get the munchies on this one: Downtown Crossing: Fried food, mouse poop,......

--Don't mess with the elderly in this city. They are not easy targets. A guy found that out when he tried to steal an old woman's purse at the Downtown Crossing T stop. On Wednesday night, Christopher Linehan, 29, of Dorchester, tried to snatch the purse of the unidentified 79-year-old woman. Neither party would let go of the purse, so Linehan tried dragging the woman to one of the black turnstiles. Good Samaritans started blocking......

- Two men are on the lam after an attempted carjacking in broad daylight on the Mass Pike. The suspects jumped into the back seat of a car waiting in line for the Allston-Brighton toll. When they arrived at the booth the driver alerted the attendant to the carjacking while being "pistol-whipped" with a handgun. The car hit another and then stopped, at which time the two men fled and have yet to be......

The Boston Public Library is all jazzed because it wants the Copley T station's name changed to "BPL Station" or somesuch. Apparently, Mayor Menino and some local pols are behind the BPL on this, and are sponsoring legislation to have the name changed. Pro-change parties cite Boston's quaint precedent of naming T stations for nearby landmarks, a la "Suffolk Downs," "Aquarium," and "Airport." For the past five years, the T has rolling its eyes......

UPDATE: The Orange Line is running again according to an MBTA rep. We're running the blotter early because Ruggles is shut down following a shooting on a train. WBZ reports that a 19-year-old went to Boston Medical Center. WCVB had more – the man was hit in the leg, it happened on the last car, and two black men ran off after the shooting. MBTA says the following on its site: Substitute bus service will......

--The last thing we need, especially with a presidential election coming up, is for someone to add fuel to the flag-burning debate. On Thursday, someone in Natick destroyed a solar-powered trash container by stuffing it with American flags and setting them on fire. The person who did it must be trying to offend as many people as possible - the left by wrecking an environmental device, and the right by burning flags. We are all......

a Herald review shows passengers at busy MBTA stations such as Forest Hills in Jamaica Plain, Ruggles in Roxbury and Dorchester’s Ashmont stop are most likely to be victims of assaults, robberies and other mayhem. Watch out, "other mayhem" may afflict you next time you're looking to hop a train. The Herald has a write-up today (with interactive -but incorrectly labled (thanks for the tip reader GreenLine) - maps if you head to the website)......

Why do we get the depressed feeling that this won't be the last time you see this headline? Anyway, the onset of puberty usually leads to outbursts, but this is ridiculous. The BPD arrested a 10-year-old girl for attacking a 22-year-old woman at Target in Dorchester. The Herald reports that several girls beat on and kicked the woman after she bumped into them and didn't apologize. According to a police spokesman, while the woman was......

Sitting outside on a grassy patch next to flip-flop and business suit clad Bostonians seems like a recipe for snippets of wonderment. Sometimes it is and sometimes it isn’t. As the weather turns from Spring to Winter to Summer (it’s New England, right?) we’ve got our ears open and hope you do, too. When you hear something, say something. Send in your nuggets of out-of-context statements, outrageous pickup lines, and nonsensical musings to us......
