The Bruins won! Sure, they gave up a 2-0 first-period lead, and they allowed Atlanta to tie the game again, 3-3, in the final minute. But Patrice Bergeron beat Ondrej Pavelec in the shootout to give the B's their first win in like forever.

With the Red Sox in the insignificant final series of 2009, the most interesting topic today for Bostonist is, you guessed it, the notoriously enigmatic Patriots injury report! Jerod Mayo and Vince Wilfork generated a lot of interest as Bill Belichick listed them as "doubtful" and "questionable," respectively.
The Globe reports that anonymous sources have said that Patriots linebacker Jerod Mayo has a sprained medial collateral ligament, which he sustained during the first quarter of last night's game. Somehow, in the quagmire and the deluge that took turns drenching the city yesterday, the Red Sox and the Rays found time to get in five innings. But one was really all the Sox needed.
The Penguins are a good team. Eastern Conference champs last year, home team of the young superstar of the NHL...it's not a bad gig. But in the 2008-09 version of the league, they're nothing but a road bump for the red-hot Bruins, who exploded again for a 5-2 win and their ninth straight win.
Tom Brady met the media as the Patriots began camp yesterday. After spending the offseason at beaches around the world trying to wash the disaster of last season off himself, he says the time off was good for him, and he's ready to join Coach Bill and the team in the singleminded pursuit of finishing the job this year. (Bostonist has to admit, we're partial to the idea of tanking opening day against the Chiefs, then running the table, so we can wear 18-1 shirts, too).
It wasn't a very good night at all for Boston teams playing south of the Mason-Dixon line. Not a very good night at all.
