We're up front and honest here at Bostonist. We'll fess up when we screw up. So in the interest of further disclosure, we'll freely admit that the words "Just as long as Sidney Crosby doesn't score the game-winner" were uttered by this Bostonist exactly 0.00045 seconds before Sidney Crosby scored the game-winner. Sorry about that. more ›

If Bostonist had $1 every time an ex-athlete turned broadcaster said something stupid, well, you know. Pay up, Mike Milbury. Yes, the former defenseman, coach and GM, who is one of NBC's Olympics ice hockey analysts, checked his brain when he described Russia's effort in a 7-3 quarterfinal loss to Canada as a "euro-trash game." He also called Alex Ovechkin "average." more ›
If you'd told us a couple of weeks ago that the Celtics, slogging their way through a mediocre winter, would come back from this post-ASG Western swing 3-1, we'd have first checked to see if you'd just been hit in the head with a 2x4, then we would have been pleasantly surprised.

The Boston Celtics (35-18) four-game road swing continued with a third consecutive victory on Friday, a 96-76 decision over the Portand Trailblazers. Ray Allen paced the Green with 21 points, 11 coming in the fourth quarter as the home team tried to rally. "Ray is going to get traded tomorrow," Doc Rivers said. "We're going to keep saying it so he can keep playing well." more ›
Bruins defenseman Mark Stuart broke his finger fighting Wayne Simmonds of the LA Kings over the weekend. The injury will keep Stuart out until after the Olympic "break" (har har). Adam McQuaid will take his place in the meantime. Stuart broke his sternum earlier this season, making him the bonebreak kid. [Herald] more ›
The bad news is, the Red Sox still face Toronto eight more times this year. The good news is, it can't get much worse than it did yesterday, when the Blue Jays enthusiastically pounded Jon Lester and scraped the Sox off their cleats, 11-0.

The U.S. Women's Soccer Team, featuring former Boston Breakers player Kate Markgraf, won the Olympic gold medal today. The team just squeezed past Brazil, who had beaten the U.S. in last fall's World Cup, which was won by Germany (Brazil placed second; the U.S., third). This is the U.S. Women's third gold medal in four Olympics. After a scoreless match dominated by Brazil, U.S. player Carli Lloyd kicked one in during overtime to make the U.S. golden once again. more ›
For lack of a better term, Jon Lester has been the ace of the pitching staff this year. But last night Mark Buehrle and the Chicago White Sox, showed Lester and everyone else how it’s done. Buehrle’s performance helped lead the White Sox over the Red Sox 5 – 3. more ›
The Olympics start today, and the Chinese Government has shared some fashion tips with their fine citizens to make visitors to their country more comfortable. Considering such a fashion icon like a Bai Ling comes from China, they must know a thing or two when it comes to style. more ›
We don’t know what’s going on. We don’t know why you keep losing. But feel free to stop whenever you feel like it. We’re not asking for you to throw a no hitter all of the time. But this whole losing thing you’ve got yourself into, it’s not working for us; especially when we’re three games behind the Devil Rays. Thanks for listening. more ›
In case you've been hiding under a rock, or maybe misguidedly training for the Olympics (missed your chance for this year, sorry), the Beijing Olympics start on Friday. Several current and former Bay Staters will be suiting up for a chance to win international acclaim for their athletic feats. Being a city by the bay, we're rather heavy on swimmers, rowers, and sailers. Here's a quick list of folks born or living in Massachusetts who'll be competing at the Olympic level. Check the schedule for details on what sport happens when. For more information about the athletes, click their linked bios, or visit Boston.About.com or WBZTV. more ›
The Manny Ramirez sycophants are still chirping, but whether they like it or not, the Jason Bay era has begun. Bay arrived in Boston and although, he didn’t get the police escort that Doug Mirabelli got when he returned back to Boston; he did receive a hero’s welcome. Not bad for a guy who’s been playing for a team that no one cares about. Last night, Bay and the Sox beat the Oakland A’s 2-1. more ›

Where to begin? When it comes to baseball, most of the news that came out of Tuesday was dreary, almost as dreary as the skies over Boston this morning. It felt as if it took ages for Barry Bonds to take the final steps in his journey to become baseball's new home run king, but on Tuesday night, the San Francisco Giants slugger did it. Shortly before midnight Eastern time, at a time when many... more ›
Banner week for SFist as the site's new editor introduced himself -- hooray for Brock! While the NY Times weighed in on SF's mayoral race, only SFist had the (insert tongue firmly into cheek) hard-hitting latest on candidate/activist Josh Wolf. Coverage of a protest vs. gentrification spawned a fantastic debate amongst SFist's readers. Finally, from the sublime to the ridiculous: video of a man that confused a Board of Supes meeting with "open mic... more ›
We're wondering if Romney asks a higher power to smite his enemies. Rudy Giuliani's campaign stoked Mormon Fear by sending out a release linking the Mormon's candidacy to a weird prophecy about a Mormon riding in on a white horse. During the Republican debate, lightning struck and cut out the sound while Giuliani was speaking. The photo above shows Romney aiming a finger at Giuliani 'cuz he probably thought the Lord was pulling through.... more ›
With all that went down this week, we thought we thought we'd cheer everyone up by giving everyone a double dose of dogs. It was a rollercoaster ride of emotions this week at DCist. Like the rest of country, we were floored by the news of so many dead coming out of Virginia Tech, and with so many of the victims and their relatives from the D.C. area, we felt it important to pay... more ›
This is why Bostonist generally tries to stay away from weather reporting. We were certain that the Red Sox would be washed out yesterday, but the rain stopped long enough for the Sox to whup on the Angels one more time. We're going to be sad to see them go. Josh Beckett was prepared for the original 10:05 AM start, telling reporters, "I think I laid down at 8 and went to sleep at 9.... more ›
